Ikigai - the reason for being
From a very young age, I have had a profound love for creating with my hands. This passion, rooted in childhood, has blossomed into a lifelong journey enriched by my personal and professional experiences and my travels. These explorations have introduced me to a vibrant tapestry of cultures, diverse cuisines, stunning art forms, and captivating music that inspire my creativity. With the unwavering support of my husband, I have been able to draw inspiration from these rich encounters, channeling my creativity into the world of unique pottery.
Ceramics play a pivotal role in my artistic expression, especially in the realms of bonsai and orchid cultivation. The process of finding the perfect pot for a bonsai tree is not merely about aesthetics; it is a crucial step in honoring the authenticity of this delicate art form that respects the tree's natural environment. Each curve, color, and texture of the pot complements the bonsai's character and growth, creating a harmonious connection between the two. Similarly, selecting the right pot for orchids is essential, enhancing both their beauty and value. Artful design and functionality come together in my pottery, transforming each piece into a celebration of nature’s elegance.
My creations are greatly influenced by my Japanese heritage, which instills in me a deep appreciation for traditional craftsmanship and the philosophy of harmony with nature. The intricate techniques and rich symbolism inherent in Japanese ceramics resonate in my work, as I strive to bring a contemporary touch to these timeless practices. In 2016, my journey into ceramics crystallized my passions, leading me to explore this art form more deeply, and ultimately transforming it into my life’s calling.
I firmly believe that immersing oneself in the disciplines of bonsai and traditional pottery is essential to gaining a full understanding of this ancient art. Recognizing the vital connection between ceramics and its artistic applications—both ancient and contemporary—reinforces my dedication to creating artisan bonsai pots and orchid pots. Each piece I create is a labor of love, embodying not just beauty but also a sense of purpose and respect for the earth.
Today, I am privileged to share my passion with the world. Through workshops, exhibitions, and community engagement, I aim to inspire others to appreciate the intricate relationship between art and nature. My journey has allowed me to cultivate a deeper understanding of how my creative pursuits intertwine with my purpose, ultimately leading me to discover my Ikigai—a Japanese concept that signifies the intersection of what you love, what you are good at, what the world needs, and what you can be rewarded for.
As I continue to create and share my work, I am reminded that every piece of pottery I creayte is not just an object; it is a reflection of my journey, a tribute to nature, and a bridge connecting me to my heritage and to others who find joy in the beauty of pottery.
